4 Nov. 2011 : SYMI - RHODOS
Panormitis (SYMI) - RHODOS
Weather : Sunny ca.21°C
Wind : NNE 3 Bf, decreasing to 1 Bf in the afternoon
After a night at anchor & a morning-swim (for some of the crew),
we hauled anchor at 9.50h.
The first half of the trip we had a very nice sail, with a beam reach.
The last part of the trip the engine had to help us out,
because the wind died down.
At ca.14.40h we arrived in the Mandraki-harbour of Rhodos.
The staff of Istion (Thomas) did a prompt and quick check-out,
so at 15.45h our boat was cleared for check-out (everything was OK).
We filled up the Diesel-tank : 46 Liter / ca.72 Euro.
Afterwards we visited the impressive old town of Rhodos, a must !
Taverna-tip : Nireas (Odos Sofokleous - Rhodos Old Town),
it's a nice fish-restaurant, in the backstreets of the old town.
(ca.120 Euro / 6 pers).
Summary :
Sailing in Rhodos the first week of november is recomended,
the climate is mild (day 20°C/night 17°C) and the wind can be unpredictable,
but was very reliable blowing from the N this week.
Almost every harbour is nearly empty, so no worries to get space in the harbours.
In every harbour some taverna's were still opened, as were the supermakets and bakeries.
A small disadvantage is that the days are a lot shorter than in summermonths.

3 nov. 2011 : TILOS - SYMI
Weather : Sunny ca.20°C
Wind : NNE 4-5 Bf
At 9.45h we left Livadhia, we decided to sail to Panormitis on Symi,
instead of sailing to Halki.
The wind was blowing with force 4 to 5 BF from the NNE, which create
some considerable waves, coming in on the side of the ship, this in
combination with a tight reach created a bumpy but fast ride on to
Symi...nice sailing ;-)
At ca.14.30h we anchored in the bay of Panormitis, in the South of Symi.
Some of us ventured a swim in the sea, watertemp. 21°C.
Tommorow our last Sailingday, destination Rhodos.

Pali (NISIROS) - Livadhia (TILOS)
Weather : More Clouds than sun ca.19°C
Wind : N 1-2 Bf
At 9.45h we left Pali, there were many clouds and nearly no wind.
So we had to go on engine the entire trip to Tilos.
After 22 N.M. we arrived at 13.00h in the harbour of Livadhia on Tilos.
The harbour now has moorings and there are connections for power and water,
we where kindly greeted by the Harbourmaster, a friendly women who speeks german very good.
We payed 18 Euro harbourfee (incl. 200 liter water and powersupply).
For the moment we're the only visiting yacht in the harbour.
In the afternoon we took the bus to Megalo Horio, where we visited the museum dedecaded to the skeleton of a midget-elephant, in a cave on Tilos they found a lot of skeletons from these elephants.
Afterwards we visited a beautifull church.

Pali (NISIROS)
Weather : Clouds and sun ca.19°C
Wind : N 1 Bf
Last evening we had a nice dinner at "Aphrodite" (ca.14 Euro),
they also offer free WI-FI and showers (3 €).
Today we rented some motorbikes at "Captains Bikes" at 8 Euro pro bike,
the bikes where in good shape, altough it is the end of season.
First we visited the volcano of Nisiros, we where alone there.
It's magnificent, simply incredible, you walk around in a volcanic-crater that's still alive !
It's a must !
Afterwards we visited the nearly abadoned village of Emborio.
To end our trip we visited the capital of Nisiros : Mandraki,
and also the ancient castle, witch has magnificient views towards the islands of Kos and Yialos.
It was a wonderfull day, cruising the island on a moped,
Nisiros is simply beautifull !
